Wrong Place – Wrong Time [song lyric]

Posted on Updated on

If someone asks me at a gig “Can you play some Sting or Springsteen?”, here are the lyrics of the song that I sing in response:

WRONG PLACE – WRONG TIME

I’ll tell you something straight
And I say it not in hate
I hope you’ll listen well to what I say
You’ll think it isn’t fair
But you need to be aware
Of something that may just get in the way

There’s no hard feelings meant
It isn’t heaven-sent
The message that you need to understand
Please do not be offended
There’s no offence intended
If you can’t take my words or hold my hand

Refrain:
To the wrong place you’ve come
If you want to find some fun
Some superficial entertainment scene
If you want to be diverted
And not be disconcerted
Then switch me off and find a hit machine

I like to play with words
Which to you may seem absurd
‘Cause you’re so sane and trapped inside your head
That if you listen to me
It might just drive you crazy
Although I wish it melted you instead

Well I guess you might have heard
that I never mince my words
Or wear kid gloves to touch your comfort zone
If you don’t get my drift
And you can’t receive my gift
Your heart’s as full of passion as a stone

Refrain:
To the wrong place you’ve come
If you want to find some fun
Some superficial entertainment scene
If you want to be diverted
And not be disconcerted
Then switch me off and find a hit machine

Why can’t you take the cue?
And read my point of view
You always think you know what’s going down
You just can’t take the hint
Of fire there’s not a glint
And now your eyes are focused on the ground

So let’s just get this clear
Without a hint of fear
You need to ask yourself the reason why
You’ve come to listen to me
To look at me (right through me)
And yet your folded wings refuse to fly

Refrain:
To the wrong place you’ve come
If you want to find some fun
Some superficial entertainment scene
If you want to be diverted
And not be disconcerted
Then switch me off and find a hit machine

Please don’t think I’m a bore
But over there’s the door
The choice is yours to walk right through it now
And keep on walking straight
Before it gets too late
Without you here I’ll get through life somehow

There’s one more little thing
To you with love I bring
The bubbling lava words which burn my soul
If you can’t take the heat
Or walk along my street
How will we ever fill in the Black Hole?

Refrain:
To the wrong place you’ve come
If you want to find some fun
Some superficial entertainment scene
If you want to be diverted
And not be disconcerted
Then switch me off and find a hit machine
