Winging It! [sonnet]

winging

We think that all that’s us should be “in place” —
all neatly stored in boxes on a shelf;
until the day arrives you’re face-to-face
with all the secret layers of your self.

“Get wisdom first!” the proverb sweetly sings:
Before all else that song should be our goal.
Then, after that, be sure to find your wings;
for flying wisely will reveal your soul.

Thenceforth, we relish learning through mistakes
(the honest pilgrim’s welcomeful surprise).
For painful wakeup calls our mess unmakes
and every mask we wear will pulverize.

There’s nothing quite like learning on-the-fly:
“I’m winging it!” should be our battlecry!

    Winging it is exactly right. We hardly know what we know!
