If You Can Answer Yes… [song lyric]

Posted on Updated on

This song I wrote this morning as the flipside to the one I wrote the other day, which was entitled “In a Box”. I guess it says it all. Enjoy, if you can…

Do you have the time of day to play around me
Are you always there in some small special way
Do you love to sleepy talk at 3am time
With someone who in your sweet bed does lay

Have you always moved whichever way your heart goes
Do you light the day up with your torchlike laugh
Do you never follow all the fads of fashion
Do you see your journey as a sacred path

Are you the Kind of Lady Who…? [song lyric]

Posted on Updated on

Okay, here a brief flipside checklist for you. Positive checklist for you coming next. I had fun writing this…

Are you the kind of lady who likes all things in a box
Neatly lined up rows of shiny things
Always making sure you wear a pair of matching socks
Never wait to see what fate may bring?

Are you the kind of lady who works late into the night
After starting work before the break of day
Always using work to keep from feelingfullnesslife
(Workoholics keep all that at bay)?

Making Caves [song lyric]

Posted on Updated on

I know a cave
it’s cold and clear and
right beneath my feet
so frozen there
I make my home all
feelings obsolete

I am not sad
or happy there ’cause

And all the things
which pass my cave don’t
have the tools for that

Crying in the Dark [sonnet]

Posted on Updated on

Ice crystals fell down from the sky that night
But that was when the moon had flown more huge.
[Its face a look of shock (or was it fright)
At all the futile stealth and subterfuge].

After circling in the snow (footprints new),
We climbed the spiral stairway (silent sighs).
Out of breath, our anticipation grew –
How hard it was maintaining the disguise!

An Ode to Abeyance, Parts 1 & 2 [sonnet]

Posted on Updated on

The Sonnet is my favourite poetic form. I love the discipline and logical flow. 14 lines. 10 syllables on each line. Rhyming according to which school one follows (or I often make my own rhyming pattern). Here are two examples from my oeuvre:

She Said I was a Gigolo [song lyric]

Posted on Updated on

She said I was a gigolo
I didn’t stand a chance
She told them I’m a gigolo
Now they know how to dance
Then she drove on down the line
With a smile – she’s feeling fine
For on their lips there is the rhyme:
He’s a gigolo

If there’s one thing women hate
It’s a gigolo
If there’s a type they love to slate
It’s the gigolo
Though there’s always prey for him
He’s the joke that’s wearing thin
So to make his prospects grim
Tell them he’s a gigolo

Five-Letter Word [A riddle song]

five_letter_word

It shines in the shadows
It shines where the sun shines least
It lights up the basement
And the feeding grounds of the beast
You can always see it coming
And run from its rays if you please
