Dog in the Manger [song lyric]
She couldn’t have the one who she wanted
So she made sure that no one else could
The moment she saw competition
She got out her dark storybook
She watched him to see who he talked to
Like a hawk in the sky stalks its prey
She even included ‘potentials’
If she thought he might steal them away
The moment she thought he might want them
Anonymous words she did post
She signed it “From someone who’s anxious,
There is something I want you to know”
She then painted dark, threatening pictures
About the man who she thought they’d admire
So he’d no more receive their attentions
Against him she coldly conspired
What a poor little dog in the manger
Barking with twisted up hate
Fooling with destiny’s fortune
But a sad lonely life is her fate
Yet everyone thinks she’s fantastic
Showering her daily with love
Such a wonderful warm lovely person
But they don’t see the fist in the glove
When minds are so easily altered
And people so easily swayed
I counsel you never to listen
And say to you all: “Be afraid”
Because of her good reputation
Everyone falls for her lies
There’s no way they’ll stand up against it
No matter how hard they may try
The one thing in which to find comfort
Is that sooner or later her yarns
Will be heard by a girl who knows better
And who then will not fall for her charms
What a poor little dog in the manger
Barking with twisted up hate
Fooling with destiny’s fortune
But a sad lonely life is her fate
