Framed [new song]

framed

When all the cards are down
And with my feet firm on the ground
I can see the pack was never full.
Missing was the Queen of Hearts
Well it was pinned with feathered darts
To a half-done painting on the wall.

So I took a closer look
My knees were trembling and I shook
For in the picture frame I saw a man.
Thought I knew its fearful face
And then I saw the faintest trace
of every single moment that I am.

It was me in that frame
And I still don’t know my real name
It is me in this song
But I can’t find out where I belong

I pulled the darts out from that Queen
For I had seen her in my dreams
Never could I pin her down in time.
That’s a card which always strays
Like a whip my back it flays
Never seem to get that Queen to rhyme.

So I’m dealt a hand of cards
In the Queen of Hearts’ courtyard
Still she is not present in the pack.
The Ace of Spades has dug the grave
As other cards I tried to save
The darts they hit me as I turned my back.

It was me in that frame
And I still don’t know my real name
It is me in this song
But I can’t find out where I belong
