Above the Fray [song lyric]

Pick me up and dust me down
Find a way to wipe that frown
Off the face of Father Sun
Shining down on everyone

Why do clouds obscure the view?
Why the air ’tween me and you?
Why the tear ’tween I and me?
Why’s the news not poetry?

Creases ironed away
Dawning of a new day
Far above the fray

Why the blood on youngster’s face
Why the priests devoid of grace
Why the churches dead man’s smile
Why the sermons smoke and bile

Why’s that car all twisted steel
Why the corpse behind the wheel
Why the hole dug in that ground
Why the wailing voices sound

Creases ironed away
Dawning of a new day
Far above the fray

Why the starving kids to feed
Why the overwhelming greed
Why do leaves turn brown and dry
Why the need for questions why

There’s the Sun’s chip off the block
Find a way to wipe that shock
Off the mouth of Mother Moon
Shining down her rays of gloom

Creases ironed away
Dawning of a new day
Far above the fray

Black holes here and black holes there
Black holes open everywhere
One dark day the end will fall
Sun and Moon will shine no more

Life is short and life is just
One hair’s breadth from rot and rust
Make the most of what you’ve got
Find some love and tie the knot

Creases ironed away
Dawning of a new day
Far above the fray
Fray… Fray… Fray
