I am a Shadow [sonnet]
I am a shadow of my former self
dark
dangling
silhouetted
by a light
which screams
I love you
(I only sought to help)
but in the end
you faded
out
of
sight
I am a total of uncounted ones
while zero made
its troubled way
alone
revolving all the while
round lightless suns
your words
(a crude chimera)
mock my phone
I am a ladder pointing upside down
my steps go
nowhere
tripping on each rung
while falling to the red earth
sea I drown
and on my
dashed intentions
I
am
hung
If only
you
had chosen
not to lie
I
would not
have to
sobly say
goodbye
[Alternative ending:
If you had chosen
never to deceive
then I would say
“your side I’ll never leave”]
