LIVING ROOM VIDEO #86. “Songs are Poems with Wings”, just written yesterday. It’s about where the best songs come from and how (so they’ll never dry up). It’s also really one big Metaphor. 😉 Just me and my guitar. (Needs a band really). I hope it encourages you 💝 Here are the lyrics:

When all the songs that write themselves
have by you all been writ —
& you’re thinking “Should I throw my pen
into the sea and quit?” —
just stand upon some golden sand
from rocks of ancient times,
and feel how wind and water work
and then will come your rhymes.

So many words spend most their lives
concealed just out of reach,
until I put my wandering feet
down firmly on that beach.
No socks, no shoes, electric earth,
I’m grounded. Then the sun
shines on my face and then I find
another song’s begun.

[Refrain]
Songs are just poems
with wings in their words,
flying from me straight to you.
Arrows of love —
they fly higher than birds
into your heart straight and true.

When no ‘huge love’ fills up your life,
the songs won’t come so quick.
It seems that songs come easy with
all that romantic schtick!
But that’s all just chimera;
there’s more to love than flesh.
When all sentimentality
recedes, songs come afresh.

Just because it’s not yet Spring
and Winter’s at its worst,
the talents of a songwriter
can seem as though they’re cursed.
But don’t let creativity
along the surface skim.

Songs are just poems
with wings in their words,
flying from me straight to you.
Arrows of love —
they fly higher than birds
into your heart straight and true.

So pluck a song out of the air;
there’s plenty flowing past.
And don’t be fussy ’bout the genre.
just pick one that will last.
Good songs aren’t from Persephone
who down to Hades went.
The greatest songs of all, I’ve found,
are those from heaven sent.
